This video was taken in a purpose-built leveret rearing facility in the Sperrin region of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Orphaned baby hares (leverets) were brought there from all over Ireland for rearing, rehabilitation and release.

This facility and the protocols used have been developed to minimise stress, which has been identified as the chief cause of leveret deaths when reared in captivity. The leverets have minimal contact with humans and the remote viewing allows constant observation and assessment of the leverets’ health, development and survival skills prior to release.

Infra-red imaging is used to maintain a natural environment and to minimise disturbance.

All of he hares were successfully released.
